LGO derisory awards

Sunday, August 1st, 2010

I have received a letter from the LGO recommending that the county council pay £250 compensation in respect of “hurt feelings” for a whole string of items:-

An email was sent around by the council saying there were allegations of sexual abuse not yet proven when there were in fact none as evidenced by the LGO letters and replies from the county council legal services department: lies about police advice: several false recordings on chronologies: one sided recording on a social services report where my concerns and answers were dismissed merely as issues yet my ex wife’s allegations were recorded in full and no efort was made to corroborate these: i was lied to about stage 3 complaints process; stage 2 was not completed as staff relevant to the enquiry were not interviewed and when i read the report my concerns and comments were ignored; disclosure was made of third party comments to the court detrimental to my character which were not requested by the court and the council have refused to disclose the reasons for such disclosure merely saying they had a duty to do so under statute and guidance notes but have failed to provide these; briefings were held by council staff and councillors where they discussed allegations of domestic violence and yet I have never been questioned about this by the police nor by the council. All this and I get a sum of £250 no wonder the councils are a law unto themselves.

I now would like the name of a decent solicitor to take the council to court for the defamatory comments made which I have already proven and then to take them on with regards to other matters but having been off work with stress and depression I cannot afford to pay so it would need to be on a no win no fee basis but the main defamatory comment has been proven already.

BBC investigation into a council planning department.

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

BBC (Scotland) reporter asks at the foot of his story,  about a South Lanarkshire councillor ‘knowing’ a property developer, “Do you have a story you want me to investigate?” Why not read his article and then drop him a line http://is.gd/df0jk . It must be about time someone investigated Ombudsmen and not just councils.  Especially since Ombudsmen and other watchdogs have patently failed to report let alone stop council corruption.

Research suggests Council Officers can lie with impunity to the LGO

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

Read the results of a nine month research project which suggests that Council Officers can lie with impunity to Local Government Ombudsmen and their staff. You can also take part in the follow up research by sending us evidence of a Council Officer misleading, or lying to, a Local Government Ombudsman or their staff for inclusion in the final part of this research.

The pathetic response to a petition submitted by Keith Edmunds.

The petition

The Government’s pathetic response. (No wonder the country is in such a mess!)

The death of Baby Peter in Haringey was a very tragic case that shocked and appalled the country. Safeguarding children is this Government’s top priority and we expect it to be the top priority for local agencies too. Ministers announced to Parliament on 12 November that they had asked Lord Laming to prepare an independent report of progress being made in the delivery of arrangements to protect children, and to identify any barriers to effective, consistent implementation and how these might be overcome. The Government welcomed Lord Laming’s report, published on 12 March, and responded immediately, accepting all his recommendations and taking swift, decisive action to begin to take them forward. On 6 May the Government published an action plan, confirming its commitment to implementing Lord Laming’s recommendations and its determination to do everything possible to make the arrangements in this country for protecting children the best in the world.

From April 2000 to March 2008 the Local Government Ombudsman investigated 115 complaints about social services as a whole in Haringey. During this time, the Local Government Ombudsman has received 53 complaints about children and family services in Haringey. Of the 53 complains received 12 were resolved through local settlement, 6 resulted in findings of no maladministration, 13 were resolved using Ombudsman’s discretion, 4 were considered to be outside the Ombudsman’s jurisdiction to investigate and 18 were considered to be premature. Complaints categorised as about children and family services can include child protection, care arrangements including fostering and adoption or arrangements for children leaving care.

The Government considers that the Local Government Ombudsman continues to provide a robust route of redress and that no review is required.

New petition to get rid of the LGO

Saturday, June 6th, 2009

Submitted by Graham Crane. The deadline to sign is 5th September 2009.

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to scrap the local government ombudsman (LGO) as they serve no useful purpose to members of the public they are supposed to serve. According to my own experience and that of others recorded on many web sites, the local government ombudsman serves only to protect Local Authorities interests and serves no useful purpose to members of the public. The people who work for them are ex-council officials and civil servants who take the council’s side regardless of how overwhelming the evidence is. In the tiny number of cases they do find for the public the compensation and remedies are totally inadequate. In these times when we need to save money they are an ideal candidate to cut and as soon as possible.
